Starehe School

Starehe Boys’ Centre & School and Starehe Girls’ Centre are part-residential and part-day high schools in Kenya. Starehe Boys’ was founded in 1959 by Dr. Geoffrey William as a residential care facility for street boys in Nairobi. Starehe Girls’ Center was established in 2000. Starehe Boys’ Center is among the few half dozen schools in Sub-Saharan Africa that are members of the Round Square – an internationally diverse network of 200 like-minded schools in 50 countries on six continents that connect and collaborate to offer world-class programmes and experiences, developing global competence, character and confidence.

The name “Starehe” in Kiswahili means Tranquility, Peace, or Comfort, signifying a place where orphaned boys would find solace in its humble beginnings. The location of the original Boys’ center is also called Starehe.

The Starehe Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of secondary education of youth at the Starehe Boys’ Centre & School and Starehe Girls’ Centre & School in Nairobi, Kenya.
